“The men of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army, came from different backgrounds, different parts of the country. They were farmers and coal miners, mountain men and son of the Deep South. Some were desperately poor, others from the middle class. One came from Harvard, one from Yale, a couple from UCLA. Only one was from the Old Army, only few came from the National Guard of Reserves. They were citizen soldiers.
They came together in the summer of 1942, by which time the Europeans had been at war for three years. By the late spring of 1944, they had become an elite company of airborne light infantry. Early on the morning of D-Day, in its first combat action, Easy captured and put out of action a German battery of 105 mm cannon that were looking down on Utah Beach. The company led the way to Carentan, fought in Holland, held the perimeter at Bastogne, held the counteroffensive in the Battle of the Bulge, fought in the Rhineland campaign, and took Hitlers`s Eagle`s Nest at Berchtesgaden. It had taken almost 150 percent casualties. At the peak of its effectiveness, in Holland in October 1944 and in the Ardennes in January 1945, it was a good a rifle company as there was in the world.

All About War Movies 
I show almost the entire series in my Miltary History course. It is a great study in command as you can contrast the leadership styles of Winters and Sobell. Also it is interesting to follow the characters of the men and wonder who is going to make it. Spears is one of my favorite characters of all time.
I want to rewatch it. It really stunned me when I saw it. There is so much in it. I am reading the book at the moment.
BOB is an unusual case where the movie (miniseries) has more depth than the book. The good thing is the book is great and the miniseries adds to it, but with actual facts from the author. How often have you heard people complain about stuff they leave out of the movie? BOB is the opposite. For instance, Reaux (the medic) is barely mentioned in the book, yet gets an entire episode in the series. BTW I use the howitzer scene to teach tactics in my Military History class.
Interesting. I can’t remeber this scene just right now. Bastogne is what stayed and will always stay… I quite like the book, makes me remember things in the series.
I think the ending of the BoB is such excellent that it makes u think about the series and real men many times…… background score and the ending is really unforgettable…………
