Here’s what it says
As most of you will be aware, Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo are the hosts of the finest film show that the UK has to offer. The former is a film critic who’s words have graced the pages of numerous newspapers and magazines, is a regular presence on the nation’s TV screens and has even been lampooned by Vizcomic and had his huge, flappy hands mocked on The Thick Of It. Simon Mayo is perhaps one of Britain’s most recognisable and popular radio presenters. Many of us spent our youth listening to him on BBC Radio 1 only to follow him to his afternoon slot on BBC Radio 5 Live and then to BBC Radio 2 where he currently presents the popular Drivetime show. Mayo has also been slightly maligned on The Thick of It. The two doctors present Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review; two hours of film discussion, interviews, reviews and the home of the occasional ‘Kermodian rant’ – wittertainment at its finest.
Over the past few weeks they have been inviting listeners to help them compile a code of conduct for watching films in the cinema, a list of rules that many of film bloggers would agree with, and have even had the decency to provide a poster…
The rules for the meme are simple
On 1 Dec 2010: post the ‘code of conduct’ poster on your blog under the title ‘Cinema Code of Conduct’ and, underneath that, post your own 11th rule. Also include a link to the Kermode and Mayo’s Filmsite. (where you can find and download the poster).
Here goes rule No 11
No Emergencies
Please have your heart attacks, cardiac arrests, seizures, fits, panic attacks and cold turkeys elsewhere. We are too nice to let you die on your own and running to your immediate assistance would greatly disturb our movie enjoyment. You’re not fit for cinema? Stay home!
Here goes rule No. 12
No Themed Outfits
Do not abuse the topic of the movies you attend as some sort of dress guide. We don’t want to see you disguised as a vampires, aliens, member of a bomb squad or the like. You are not at a fancy-dress party. Not even when watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I think number 11 is a bit hard to do since we never know when those emergencies will happen.
Number 12 is really good, have you ever seen such person?
But it wont work in Japan, especially when they are watching anime or tokusatsu from famous TV shows. Japanese loves cosplay.
I was being sarcastic! Reading the meme it said it could be funny, abstract etc. I thought that did fit.
I am not a person for rules normally.

Just like you I find it difficult to rules too. For me, the 10 rules already cover the basic not to do in the cinema

Funny stuff. Being an American, I have no idea who those two dudes are. I wonder if they would be the equivalent of our Siskel and Ebert. I got your #11, by the way. However, if you had your way there would be no reason for the classic “Is there a doctor in the house?” Do we really want to lose that? Plus, many movies would be more memorable if someone (besides a character) died during the movie. Think about it – you would really remember that movie.
I have to disagree with #12. I like looking down on idiots. It helps my self-esteem. Plus many of those fan-centric movies are made more entertaining by the freak show that acompanies them.
I don’t really know them either, I just saw that CinemaSream linked to my site. People were all taking this so seriously. Some said things like “Cleaning up is important” or “You should sit on the right seat… ” I was being sarcastic and, admittedly didn’t think of all the movies that would have greatly been improved by someone having attacks.
As for 12. You never attended the Rocky Horror Picture Show being the only one WITHOUT the umbrella?
That sounds traumatic. I saw it once in college and did not dress up and do not recall that much audience participation. I guess it had not boomed yet.
A somewhat undignified experience. I saw it in a little cinema in Paris where they show it every Friday and EVERY Friday it’s the same. Sometimes you must see things before you belive them. I was soaking and didn’t hear the movie because of loud off-key singing and there was some rice throwing invloved as well. And dancing, did I mention dancing?
Did anyone wear rain coats? I believe the rice throwing was for the wedding scene.
I remember umbrellas.
