Pete Postlethwaite (1946-2011) Actor in the Sharpe Series, In the Name of the Father, Inception

Pete Postlethwaite died of cancer on Sunday 2 January in a hospital in Shropshire, UK.

I have no clue why the news of Postlethwaite’s death saddens me so much but it does. Many actors or celebrities die regularly and I couldn’t care less.

I am still watching the Sharpe series and Postlethwaite has a particularly nasty role in it but still, there is something about this guy. An odd-looking fellow, a gear actor and now sadly passed at age 64.

Apparently Spielberg once called him the best actor of the world. I might not go as far as that but he was very special.

Hope he’s fine wherever he is now.

His Obediah Hakeswill in the Sharpe’s series is one of the top ten villains in movie history, in my opinion. I could not wait for that character to get his justice. So malevolent, yet crafty. No one could have played the character better. All Sharpe’s fans are in mourning today.

    • The thing is, he is that good that I hadn’t even realized I had seen him before playing likable characters. What is more odd is that not one of the news on his death Sharpe is mentioned… He is fantastic…

It is a sad news indeed. I quite like him too.

Silly thing is I don’t know his name until I saw him in Inception, I am not a person who easily remember actor’s name.

    • It is sad. I didn’t really remember his name either, it’s a difficult name… In the Sharpe series he is incredible… He plays such a nasty fellow. I still haven’t seen Inception. Need to watch it soon.
